Clinical Photographic Procedure to capture polarized, fluorescent and metameric restorative images

Authors: Brokos Y, Stavridakis M, Mountouris S,Lagouvardos P,Krejci I.

Summary

Composite resins and ceramics represent the materials of choice for both direct and indirect restorations and therefore should emit similar optical properties to those of natural dentition. Dental clinicians should be able to monitor these properties in their routine clinical setting using a quick and straightforward procedure. Coupled with the standard dental photographic equipment, a set of glass and membrane filters were used in front of lens and/or flash, to capture fluorescence, metamerism and polarizing images. The results showed that using the proposed illumination set-up and comprehensive photographic technique it is possible to acquire the desirable clinical pictures eliminating time-consuming procedures. Thus it was demonstrated the documentation of the suggested properties during the complete stages ofthe restorative procedures.
